Friday
- I woke up tired again. Work has been asking me to take some
time off and so I requested most of today… There were a
couple meetings which I had to attend, but after those, I was
able to sign out.
- Matthew’s roommate was kind enough to take me to the
car dealership since Matthew was apparently sleeping in today.
- My 90k mile service check was due on my 1999 Saturn. I actually
have 96k miles on it now, but skipped it last time for money reasons.
Of course, it turns out that my brake line was leaking and also
that it had saturated the drums -- which means those needed replaced
as well. Apparently. And the power steering fluid had oxidized.
Apparently.
- The good news is that they didn’t find anything that
might be causing me to smell exhaust fumes. I’d mentioned
that to them and was worried for that extra cost. I wonder if
I was smelling brake fluid. The cost for my excursion to the Saturn
shop? $856.00
- My Halloween custom might be less impressive than I’d
hoped because of that car bill. Today I also made an appointment
to get fitted for contact lenses. My hope was to get some good
theatrical lenses and fangs to better pull off my “Emily
Dickenson is alive as a vampire” costume. But the lenses
are $200, the fangs are probably like $100 and the eye appointment
will be about $75. I’m not sure I can afford that. And I
still have to figure out some cloths…
- “Emily Dickenson is alive as a nudist vampire.”
- I was invited to Matthew’s for dinner. Though I’d
already eaten, I went to visit and brought fresh pastries from
the Cuban bread store.
- Later Matthew and I played Scrabble at the Scream’n Bean.
We’ve begun bringing my Deluxe Scrabble board, in lieu of
the ordinary house board. “Geek Aura +4!”
- We left at three in the morning and went for a late night snack
were we ate and talked for another couple hours -- basically about
the differences between good and bad art, and especially the nature
of timeless art.
- I went to bed at approximately 5:30am. Determined NOT to fix
my sleep schedule this weekend as I had originally planned.
